This just in…

Thanks to the Pivot TO AI blog with its tagline:

It can’t be that stupid, you must be prompting it wrong

In their latest update they bring news direct from Microsoft HQ that the 2024 new releases (new releases are you kidding?) of both MS Paint and Notepad now come with onboard AI. Paint has had Cocreator for a while, but no one seemed interested, so they have now dialed things up a little.

The official 6 November 2024 announcement in Windows Blogs is here

This is the type of customer experiential value add that can no doubt help justify my other recent news from Microsoft that my Office365 personal subscription now includes copilot as mandatory and bundled rather than as an ‘add on’:

“to reflect the value we’ve added over the past decade and enable us to deliver new innovations for years to come, we’re increasing the prices of Microsoft 365 Personal and Family.”

The small print here is that these not often used by handy to have installed locally tools will now only be accessible via a subscription.

I am not sure if there is a hint of irony or not in the CNN review but the heading is that this changes is “astonishing” – the heading is “Microsoft added AI to software it has barely touched since 1985. The results are astonishing”

I did notice on the Microsoft Blog announcement the new look and feel of MS Paint is ‘slick’ and a bit intimidating since my last use of MS Paint was probably back in the 90s.

But I am sure with the new AI ‘hots’ MS Paint will at least be a killer app for logo creation as it always showed that potential. Just watch this demo of original MS Paint being put through its paces by Grayson’s Graphics

and as for Notepad with AI…

Bryan Lunduke ‘reviews’ (not too kindly) both the MS Paint and Notepad announcements. A summary of the Notepad changes is at 3:55

Postscript…

Some of the commentary is suggesting Clippy with AI may be next…

“Clippy knows where you sleep and what route you take to work…”

The video below might be a succinct summation of how far we have actually come with AI
